In this post, I will show you step by step how to schedule a VMware exam.

The Process

The entire process is split into a few stages.

Testing Portal Login

  • In the Additional Resources section, on the Education Portal tile, click Explore.
  • On the new page that opened up under the Addition Resources section, click on Certification.

If you want, you can skip those clicks and go directly to the following URL https://cp.certmetrics.com/vmware/en/home/dashboard

  • Under Features, click on Schedule your exam.
  • Click on SSO to Vue.

Private Access Codes

If you are taking a VMware exam at a conference, you will likely have a private access code to access the on-site exam center.

  • Click Private Access Code, type in the Private Access Code, then click Enter.

Exam Selection

  • Click on View exams.
  • Depending on the exam you are taking, you may need to click on VMware Professional Level Exams or VMware Advanced Level Exams. You can also search for the exam.

I Went to VMware Explore 2024

This year, I had the exciting opportunity to attend VMware Explore 2024 in Las Vegas from August 26th to August 29th.

I set a few goals for myself for VMware Explore. Those goals were to learn as much as possible about AVI load balancer, VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), NSX, Kubernetes, and network with other VMware nerds like me. I am happy to report that I achieved those goals. I even met people that I had only ever spoken with online. My brain is so overloaded with information right now, and I love it.

This post will recap my VMware Explore 2024 experience in Las Vegas.

Day 0

The first day of my trip was Sunday, August 25th, and I’m calling this Day 0 as this was essentially a travel day. I flew from the Calgary airport and landed in Las Vegas around 5:45 pm local time.

It was my first time in Las Vegas, so everything was a new experience. The first shock I had was that the airport had gambling machines throughout, even ones in isolated boxes for people to smoke in. I did not expect to see that, but it makes sense, as Las Vegas is known for gambling.

Escaping the airport to the rest of the Las Vegas civilization was an adventure. I needed to take a tram to another part of the airport to get to the doors that would let me out. I thought that was strange as I figured they would just be like exit here, which would be very straightforward.

I then took a cab to the hotel where I stayed, The Palazzo. On the way to the hotel, the cab passed by the Las Vegas Sphere, and holy smokes, is it huge!

The Palazzo is one of two hotels that make up the Venetian Resort. The second hotel is the Venetian. VMware Explore occurred in the Venetian Convention Center, also known as the Venetian Expo.

I got checked into the Palazzo and proceeded to find my room. You must cross the entire casino floor to get to the rooms (also called guest suites). I found my way across the casino floor to the guest suite elevators, where you needed to tap your access card before getting to the elevators. I found the bank of elevators that took me to the 35th floor, the floor my room was on.

I dropped off my bags and proceeded to find my way to the VMware Explore registration as it was around 6:15 pm, and registration closed for the day at 7 pm. I wanted to get registered immediately, as I was worried that if I waited until the following day, I might miss out on some sessions. I also wanted to have one less thing to worry about.

The only thing I knew about the location of the VMware Explore registration was that it was at the Venetian Expo and in a ballroom on level 2. I had no idea where any of that was.

I’m Going to VMware Explore

I’m Going to VMware Explore

I am very excited about VMware Explore this year, as it will be my first time at VMware Explore and the first large tech conference I’ve attended in person.

VMware Explore is a conference about VMware products that VMware (technically Broadcom now) organizes. It used to be known as VMworld, but in 2022, it was renamed VMware Explore. VMware Explore usually takes place in Las Vegas and Barcelona.

The VMware Explore event that I am attending takes place from August 26th to August 29th in Las Vegas. What’s really cool about VMware Explore is that it covers a wide range of topics, from entry-level to very technical. One of the items at VMware Explore that I’m excited about is the hands-on labs, which will allow me to play with some of the VMware products I’ve only read about.

I’m eager to learn more about VMware Cloud Foundation, Tanzu Kubernetes, NSX, and so much more. I’m also very excited to network with other like-minded people and nerd out about all the technical things. I will also be able to meet other vExperts with whom I’ve only spoken with online.

There are over 400 sessions at VMware Explore, and here are a few of the sessions I plan on attending.

VMware Tech Showcase

VMware Tech Showcase

Today at VMware Explore, VMware announced the Tech Showcase program created by the VMware xLabs team part of the VMware Office of the CTO (OCTO) team. Tech Showcase is a free program that will give you early access to products before they are fully released to the public.

It’s similar to VMware Flings, what sets it apart is that the feedback you provide will go directly to the teams working on the product, this allow for collaborations with you that will help shape the future of that product.

A good way to think of it is if you had access to VMware Tanzu before Tanzu existed and you could provide feedback to the teams building Tanzu to help shape what Tanzu is today.

The two Showcase Services that are being offered at launch are Project Keswick and Project Trinidad. VMware plans to add more in the future.

Project Keswick is like a Windows PE (Preinstallation Environment) but it runs ESXi and the PE is actually an optimized version of Kubernetes that you can use to deploy your edge workload.
